AMA attends the London Halal Food Festival for first time, raising awareness on humanitarian crises
Africa Muslims Agency attended London’s Halal Food Festival for the first time this week, raising awareness on humanitarian crises and informing people on how they can help.
The event, which was held at London’s Queen Elizabeth Park, on the 24th and 25th of September, opened its doors to thousands of people from across the country.
AMA spoke to hundreds of people over the course of the two days, informing them about the work they do across various parts of the world, including responding to the Pakistan floods, the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan, as well as water projects around Africa.
Volunteers on the team were also able to collect necessary donations for some of the most vulnerable communities in the world, including those suffering in Lebanon’s refugee camps, with limited access to healthcare and schools.
AMA’s regional director, Hussain Choonara, who was at the event said it was key in spreading the word about communities who are suffering around the world.
“This event was important in showing people the impact of their donations, which is the objective for us,” he says.
Nadda Osman, media officer for AMA, said that it was exciting to expand AMA’s work to London.
“It’s amazing to see AMA staff in London, talking to people about the important work they do, and keep shedding light on people who are often forgotten, especially when humanitarian issues are dropped from the news cycle,” she said.
“By attending these events and gathering donations, AMA is able to ensure that vulnerable people receive the life-saving help they need,” she added.
The head of AMA’s international desk, Ashraf Gangraker, called the event a ‘wonderful event and honour to be present at’.
“Our aim is to generate interest in what we do in terms of our water projects around Africa as well as the Aman School of Excellence in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley,” he said.
AMA hopes to attend future events in London and around the world, informing people about the ongoing projects they have going on and ensuring those most in need are supported.
